What Is Claris Connect?
A UK integration explainer
Claris Connect is Claris’s own no-code integration platform — bundled into every current Claris FileMaker licence since 2025. Here’s the plain-English version: what it is, when it’s the right tool, and when bespoke integration still wins.
The Short Version (read this first)
Claris Connect is a visual no-code flow builder— similar to Zapier or Make, but with a first-party FileMaker connector. It’s bundled with the 2025 unified FileMaker licence, so for most UK clients there’s no cost to reach for it. Claris Connect wins on simple linear flows (“when X happens, do Y”); bespoke FileMaker integration still wins on field-level mapping, real-time triggers and branching business rules.
What Claris Connect
Actually Is
Claris Connect is a hosted workflow automation service made by Claris. You drag-and-drop connectors onto a flow canvas, choose a trigger (something that starts the flow — a schedule, a webhook, a FileMaker script step) and chain actions (do something in another connector). It runs in Claris’s cloud, with logs, run history and basic error handling out of the box.
The connector catalogue covers the obvious SaaS suspects — Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Xero, HubSpot, Mailchimp, Twilio — plus a generic HTTP/REST connector for everything else. The FileMaker connector itself is what makes Claris Connect a genuinely different proposition from Zapier: it’s first-party, it understands FileMaker schemas, and it doesn’t fall over the way third-party FileMaker connectors tend to.
Under the 2025 unified licensing model, Claris Connect is bundled with every current Claris FileMaker licence at no extra cost — within generous usage limits. That changes the “should we use Claris Connect or build something bespoke?” conversation: a year ago, Claris Connect was a separate buy; today, it’s already paid for.

When Claris Connect
Is the Right Tool
- Simple linear flow: when X happens in System A, do Y in System B.
- Scheduled syncs of well-known SaaS endpoints — daily contact pulls, hourly form imports.
- Quick integrations where the alternative is a CSV being emailed around.
- Flows your operations team should be able to read, even if a developer built them.
If your operations team should be able to read the flow without a developer translating it, Claris Connect is the right tool.
When Bespoke FileMaker
Integration Wins
- Invoice-level field mapping with line items, taxes and multi-currency.
- Real-time triggers from FileMaker that need scripted logic before they fire.
- Multi-step decisions with branching business rules.
- Audit-heavy flows that have to be reviewable and reproducible after the fact.
- Integrations against systems with no off-the-shelf connector.
The decisions are usually obvious once you write the flow out — if it’s a straight line, Connect; if it’s a flowchart, FileMaker scripts.
Common Claris Connect
Setups We See

Form-to-FileMaker. A Typeform or Microsoft Form receives an enquiry. Claris Connect catches the submission and creates a contact record in FileMaker with sensible defaults. A standard win, runs for years untouched.
FileMaker-to-Slack notifications. A FileMaker script triggers Claris Connect on a status change, which posts a formatted message into the right Slack channel. Far simpler than building Slack into FileMaker directly.
Daily SaaS-to-FileMaker pull. Once a day, Claris Connect pulls new HubSpot contacts, new Xero contacts, and new Mailchimp subscribers into a staging table in FileMaker. A FileMaker script then dedupes and merges them properly. Connect does the easy bit; FileMaker does the smart bit.
Hybrid with bespoke. Claris Connect handles the linear “when X happens in HubSpot, log it in FileMaker” flows; bespoke integration handles the “when an invoice is approved in FileMaker, post it to Xero with multi-currency, GL codes and tracking categories” flows. Two tools, one integration strategy.

Questions UK Teams Ask
Is Claris Connect included with my FileMaker licence?
Since the 2025 unified licensing model, yes — Claris Connect is included with the current Claris FileMaker licence at no additional cost. That makes it a much more obvious tool to reach for than it was under the old separate-product model, where it competed on its own merits against Zapier and similar.
How is Claris Connect different from Zapier or Make?
Functionally similar — visual flow builder, connectors to common SaaS apps, scheduled and triggered runs. The difference is that Claris Connect's FileMaker connector is first-party, so flows that read and write FileMaker data are noticeably less fragile than the equivalent Zapier setup. If your flows mostly involve FileMaker, Claris Connect is the better fit; if FileMaker is incidental, Zapier or Make may still be cheaper and more flexible.
When is bespoke FileMaker integration better than Claris Connect?
When you need full control over the data and the logic — granular field mapping, real-time triggers, complex business rules in scripts, or workflow that can't be expressed as a linear flow. Claris Connect is excellent for 'when X happens, do Y' — it's less suited to 'when X happens, decide between A, B or C based on these eleven business rules, then conditionally update FileMaker, Xero and Microsoft 365'. That belongs in FileMaker scripts, where you have the flexibility to build the exact behaviour your business needs.
Can we use Claris Connect and bespoke integration together?
Yes, and most mature integrations do. Claris Connect handles the easy linear flows; bespoke FileMaker scripts handle the conditional, business-rule-heavy work. Smart Wolf builds both, and we'll recommend the right tool for each part rather than forcing everything through one model.
What does Claris Connect cost to run?
Under the 2025 unified licensing model, Claris Connect usage is included in your Claris FileMaker licence within generous limits. For very high-volume scenarios, additional consumption is metered — but most UK SMEs and mid-market clients stay comfortably within the bundled allocation.
Will Claris keep investing in Connect?
Yes. Claris has invested in Connect every release cycle since the 2025 unification, including FileMaker-side trigger improvements, a wider connector catalogue, and tighter integration with Claris Studio. It's a strategic part of the Claris platform, not a side product.
