Claris Studio Is Being Discontinued
What the 15 March 2027 shutdown means for UK businesses
On 26 August 2026, Claris announced that Claris Studio will be discontinued on 15 March 2027. If you have forms, dashboards or apps running in Studio, nothing changes before that date — but the data is deleted afterwards and the links cannot be redirected. Here is the plain-English version, and what to do about it.
The Short Version (read this first)
Claris Studio shuts down on 15 March 2027. Until then it works normally and stays supported. After then, the service stops, the URLs stop resolving and Studio data is securely deleted. Claris FileMaker is not affected — nor is Claris Connect, nor your FileMaker data, nor what you pay. If you built something in Studio, you have a defined window to move it — and the first question to ask is whether it needs to be in a web browser at all. For a lot of Studio work the best home is back inside FileMaker itself.
What Claris
Actually Announced
Claris Studio was the cloud web layer of the Claris platform — responsive forms, dashboards and lightweight web apps sitting on top of FileMaker data, bundled into the FileMaker licence rather than sold separately.
Claris’s explanation for retiring it is more candid than these announcements usually are. Studio adoption was growing, but not fast enough to justify continued investment. Product gaps that Claris publicly acknowledged two years ago were not closed quickly enough, and the platform never established the differentiation it needed. In Claris’s own framing, the rapid arrival of capable AI-assisted web application builders narrowed the space Studio was competing in.
The stated principle behind the decision is that Claris would rather do fewer things and deliver them properly than spread investment too thinly. The capacity freed up goes back into FileMaker — with core platform stability and resilience named as priorities.
You can read that two ways, and both are fair. It is a supplier cutting a product that customers built on. It is also a supplier choosing focus over breadth and saying so in public, which is not the norm.
What Changes On
15 March 2027
- Claris Studio stops working entirely on 15 March 2027.
- All Studio data is securely deleted after the shutdown date.
- Studio URLs stop resolving, and individual form-link redirects are not supported.
- Anything downstream of a Studio form — reporting, notifications, follow-up workflow — loses its input.
The form links are the item most people underestimate. If a Studio URL is printed on a form, embedded in your website, sitting in an email template or encoded in a QR code, it needs repointing before the shutdown — there is no redirect available afterwards.
What Does Not
Change At All
- Claris FileMaker is not affected. Pro, Server, Cloud and Go all continue as normal.
- Your FileMaker data is entirely separate from Studio data and is untouched.
- Claris Connect and Claris MCP for FileMaker remain available and are not being discontinued.
- Connect workflows that use Studio for login, provisioning or user management keep operating after the shutdown.
- There is no pricing change — Studio was bundled, not billed separately.
If you do not use Studio, this announcement asks nothing of you. It is worth knowing about, and worth nothing more than that.
Where Studio Work
Should Go Instead
Back into FileMaker itself — the answer for most Studio work. A lot of what ended up in Studio was internal: a tracker, a data-capture form, a small dashboard. It lived in a browser because that is what Studio was, not because a browser was ever needed. Rebuilt as a native FileMaker layout it typically gets better — faster, with the full scripting and reporting model behind it, and offline working on iPad through FileMaker Go. It is already covered by your licence. Start here, and only move outward if the work genuinely needs to be on the web.
A custom web portal — where the web part is real. Customers, partners, the public: anyone you are never going to license needs a proper web application. A React or Next.js portal built on the FileMaker Data API and OData gives full control over branding, performance and user experience, with no FileMaker licences needed for end users. This is the route Claris does not name, and for customer-facing work it is usually the right one.
FileMaker WebDirect — the narrow middle. This is Claris’s own recommended path, and it earns its place when licensed users need occasional browser access to existing FileMaker layouts with nothing to build. It serves FileMaker layouts rather than a designed web experience, so it is rarely the right home for customer-facing work.
Third-party form tools — for anonymous public capture. If Studio was doing lightweight, unauthenticated data collection, tools such as Typeform, JotForm or Tally connect back to FileMaker through Claris Connect or the Data API. Claris names this route itself. It is a sound fit for simple public forms and a poor one for anything that had grown into a workflow.
The honest summary: Claris’s answer to “what replaces Studio” is WebDirect. We would push back gently — for most Studio solutions the better question is not which web technology to pick, but whether it needed to be on the web in the first place.

Claris Connect and Claris MCP for FileMaker also remain available and are not being discontinued.

No. Claris has confirmed there is no pricing adjustment as a result of discontinuing Studio, because Studio was bundled into the FileMaker licence rather than charged for separately. Your licence continues to cover FileMaker Pro, Server or Cloud, Go, WebDirect and Claris Connect.
What are the alternatives to Claris Studio?
The first question is whether the solution needs to be in a web browser at all — a lot of Studio work was internal, and only lived in a browser because that is what Studio was. Rebuilt natively in FileMaker Pro it usually gets better, and it is already covered by your licence. Where the work genuinely is web-facing: customers, partners and the public need a real web application, which means a custom React or Next.js portal on the FileMaker Data API; licensed users wanting occasional browser access to existing layouts can use FileMaker WebDirect, which is Claris's own recommended path. For lightweight anonymous forms, Typeform, JotForm and Tally connect to FileMaker via Claris Connect or the Data API.
How long does a Claris Studio migration take?
It depends entirely on what you built. A handful of data-capture forms is a small piece of work; a Studio app that has become a genuine operational system, with its own users and workflow, is a project. The useful first step is a short scoping conversation so you know which of those you are dealing with — well before the deadline crowd starts forming.
